PEARL JAM: 10

To bookend the album, the band chose a moody, bass-driven instrumental swatch that has come to be known as "Master/Slave." "As I recall, I think Jeff had, like, a bass line," Parashar said when contacted for this article. "I heard the bass line and then we kind of were collaborating on that in the control room, and then I just started programming on the keyboard all this stuff; he was jamming with it and it just kind of came about like that."READ ON

Over at Track Record's North Studio, I found energetic producer/engineer Tim Palmer mixing on Track's new SSL 9080J Series desk. Palmer, known for his work with U2, Pearl Jam, David Bowie and Tears for Fears, among others, was settling in after some major globetrotting, which put him in Dublin, Sydney, London, Toronto, Copenhagen and Rome. It's definitely been a good year for Palmer, who's been called one of the unsung heroes of alt rock. READ ON
Tim Palmer is a difficult engineer to pigeonhole. From the moment he got his breaks early in his ~career in the '80s, he's been producing and mixing a hugely diverse collection of artists. His career has taken in sessions with the likes of Bowie's Tin Machine, two Tears For Fears albums, Sepultura, Robert Plant and Pearl Jam, among many others. Comparatively recently, Tim turned his attention to being a specialist mix engineer, "because staying up till 5am for two months on end has become less appealing". His invaluable blend of a mixer's proficiency and producer's creativity came to the attention of Irish ubergroup, U2. READ ON

Recent Ozzy review from NME.Com

Amidst all the MTV freakshow brouhaha it's all too easy to forget that Ozzy - Lord King Emperor of RAWK - is blessed with the singing voice of an orgasming seraphim. Forget 'Dreamer', it's a sub 'Imagine' eco-pish ballad and is thus the hideously deformed bollocks of the world's ugliest chihuahua.
But 'Get Me Through' is the real deal. A 12-thumb killa-riff intro warns us that we are about to feast on raw, bloody and possibly still semi-conscious meat. And then Ozzy starts caterwauling over a hysterical Hammer Horror organ riff and the small hairs lining your spasming spine ripple in appreciation. Hear this.
